Travel Blogger of the Month: Hungry For The World
Meet Hungry For The World who has been selected as the Travel Blogger of the Month! Get to know Claudia, a Dutch part time traveler, and a full time life lover. Why is Mallorca one of her dream destinations? In which accommodation was she surrounded by monkeys? Find out more about this “Travel Inspector Gadget” girl in the interview.
1. Hi Claudia! Tell us a little bit more about yourself?
Hi! I’m Claudia, a twenty-something and hungry for the world, which is also the name of my blog! I grew up in the south part of the Netherlands near the Belgium border. Actually, the house I was living in was half on Dutch territory and the other half on Belgium territory. I could be cooking in Belgium and chilling in our garden in the Netherlands. All in one day! Pretty funny, right?
“My boyfriend and I are #couplegoals, because we are lovers, best friends, and each other’s favorite travel companion”
I currently live in the south part of the Netherlands with my boyfriend. We’re together for almost 10 years! It’s safe to say (no shame in my game) we are #couplegoals because we are lovers, best friends, and each other’s favorite travel companion. We’ve made nearly 50 trips together. Secretly, I also love to spend time at home. Having a solid base is important to me. I’m really passionate about cooking and baking in our kitchen, having dinner with family, chilling with friends next to our fireplace, yoga and running. I try to be a full time life lover.
2. How did you become a travel blogger?
I started my blog and my Instagram account in May 2018. It has been growing ever since! Hungry For The World stands for being hungry and eager to explore new destinations. Hungry also relates to one of my other passions: gastronomy. Fun fact: I graduated from Hotel Management 7 years ago.
Family, friends, co-workers and later friends of co-workers started asking me for tips and tricks regarding my travels. They had seen pictures on my Instagram account or heard enthusiastic stories about places I visited. People started to see me as the girl who knew the hidden gems in travel destination Y or that cool (photogenic) spot in travel destination Z.
One of the most common questions I get asked is how we get to travel “all the time”? Sometimes people wonder if we even work for a living and they want to know our secret! Well, my boyfriend and I both work really hard at our 9-5 jobs. And, luckily, we are able to take several vacations during the year thanks to our employers.
“In a modern world full of young people trying to influence material things or hyped travel destinations, I do my best to keep it real”
I absolutely love to share all my travel tips, tricks, and ultimate travel guides on my blog and Instagram with other like-minded people. In a modern world full of young people trying to influence material things or hyped travel destinations (which is totally okay if you’re into that!) I do my best to keep it real.
I travel to destinations because I’m curious to get to know another culture, the country’s food or a unique experience. Most of all I love to relax and enjoy life with my loved ones. I love visiting new destinations and documenting those experiences. Hopefully, I can look back later in life with a big smile on my face. My goal is not to be an influencer but keeping the hunger to travel alive!
3. What is your ultimate dream destination?
First of all, I fell in love with the South of France because of the dreamy language, the amazing French cuisine, the coastline, and all the cute little villages. Second, the Balearic Island Mallorca really stole my heart! I love the Mediterranean climate, relaxed vibe, stunning turquoise bays, fantastic food (hurray for tapas and paella) and wonderful nature.
“The Balearic Island Mallorca really stole my heart!”
And my last dream destination is Thailand! I had been wanting to visit Thailand for YEARS. In 2016, I convinced my boyfriend visiting this country was my life goal! And, yay, he wanted to join me. True love, huh? But oh boy, he loved Asia just as much as I did! I will never forget the smell when we walked out of the airport, getting my tiny lotus tattoo and the tears pouring over my face when we left this beautiful country. You have to visit these three places! Go, go, go! PS: I would also love to visit Australia and Costa Rica someday…lol!
4. Show us your three favorite travel photos…
This photo was taken at the crystal clear waters and fairytale limestone surroundings at Railay, Thailand. Many people take a day trip to Railay Beach, but I can really recommend staying in Railay for a few days! It’s not a cheap destination, but you will have a blast. We stayed in a luxurious accommodation for a few nights. Our villa was surrounded by cheeky monkeys who loved seeing our villa from the inside (tip: keep your doors closed). This was our first time on a real white sandy beach with turquoise water. The sunsets and fresh Thai food were amazing. Paradise!
I was really impressed by the world’s biggest Buddhist temple complex Borobodur at Java, Indonesia. We felt so tiny in between this beautiful huge stupa’s. I love the dreamy colors in the sky. The funny thing is it looks quiet and calm but that is NOT true. We were surrounded by hundreds of Indonesian locals (it was a national holiday when we visited). They were really into taking selfies with us!
On this photo I’m standing at the most stunning waterfalls we ever seen in Java, Indonesia. On a travel blog, I found a cool tour guide and he took us to a secret spot to enjoy the sunrise at Mount Bromo. It was by far the most impressive thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life. It literally made me cry and I felt so enormously grateful! Mother Nature at it’s best.
5. What do you think is the best-hidden gem?
You know the kind of hidden gems you doubt telling others about because you want to keep them to yourself Can you pinky promise to keep this one a secret? Your next dream destination is called Les Calanques (France). It’s a unique protected national park where you will find the most stunning turquoise creeks. Spoiler alert! You have to make an effort to visit this park. It’s a long adventurous hike leading up to the creeks. Picture yourself sweating like hell in 40 degrees hiking steep rocky “paths”. BUT you will get the most amazing views, are able to go for a swim, and maybe you will spot wild dolphins!

6. What is your best travel tip?
My secret is research! I am like the human Travel Inspector Gadget for real. My friends and family can assure you I take my research very seriously. I absorb as much information as I can find on blogs, Lonely Planets, travel magazines or tips from other travelers. I save all my tips in a Word file, on my phone or on one of my Instagram boards. This comes in handy when my boyfriend and I are deciding on a new destination.

I also enjoy using Google Maps or Maps.me (offline available as well) to easily see which cool spots are located close to each other. This allows you to fully enjoy the destination itself. Even when you plan ahead you will discover unknown places. if this is not for you my last tip is reading my blog Hungry For The World!
